Several class action complaints have been filed against Sony Corporation of America, Inc., Sony Electronics, Inc., and Sony Corporation relating to second generation SXRD Sony Grand WEGA Rear Projection HDTV Televisions models KDS-R60XBR2, KDS-R70XBR2, KDS-50A2000, KDS-55A2000 and KDS-60A2000. The suits are pending before the Honorable Robert P. Patterson in the United States District Court, Southern District of New York. Click here to see the First Amended Class Action Complaint.

The lawsuits allege that the televisions possess an inherent defect in a component known as the "Optical Block" which causes yellow stains, green haze, and other color anomalies to be displayed across their screens, rendering these very expensive televisions essentially useless. Sony has been unable or unwilling to permanently repair this problem, which has recurred for many consumers - sometimes after numerous "fixes."
